- What prospect is there for foreign language look-up in Kindle for PC? IMHO, Amazon most likely hasn't updated the Kindle for Windows and OSX apps, because not enough readers demanded custom dictionary support. (BTW, Amazon-bought dictionaries can be sent to the Kindle for Android app.). Download a dictionary that you won't use.
- AbsolutelyFreeWeb December 29, 2017 at 12:51 pm. This did not help me. I had changed my country setting, and I could access all content and dictionary on the iphone app, but not on the PC. There is a bug in the pc version that does not syn the country setting.
Explicit instructions in last paragraphs:
Ipad 9.3.5 user manual. If you do most of your reading on iOS and you lived in Japan when you downloaded the app, you may have noticed that the default dictionary for English stuff is an English-To-Japanese dictionary. And it is actually a very good one, and if you have any Japanese associates who want to learn more English, well, this is the way to go. They need do nothing except download the Kindle app.
But I am an English speaker who enjoys reading outdated (i.e. FREE!) texts on my Kindle app. Many of these are free or only 100 yen on the Kindle store. However, they naturally use a lot of words that we are no longer familiar with. So it is nice to have a dictionary, an English to English dictionary. However, currently, we must push 'I' for more information, then select the dictionary (USA or UK English) and then we get the definition. And there is no way to change the default dictionary. You have to do this every time. Wouldn't it be nice if you could just highlight the word and access the English to English dictionary? I have found a way! Just DELETE that default crap! It is likely not the only way, but it is a way. And it is free. Here is how:
https://areatree117.weebly.com/hack-co-ca-ngua-zing-play.html. Hack co ca ngua zingplay, tai hack co ca ngua zingplay, hack co ca ngua zingplay mien phi, hack co ca ngua zingplay, wap hack co ca ngua zingplay mien phi, hack co ca ngua zingplay hay nhat, wap hack co ca ngua zingplay. App Store, Google Play.
First, download the English to English dictionary. You do this by pressing the tiny 'I' and then you choose your dictionary of choice (e.g. UK English, US English etc.) It will download the dictionary within the app. THEN, on your computer, you need to download iExplorer This is a fantastic piece of software and I recommend buying it, but it is a bit expensive and most of you (both of you!) will probably only need it for this one thing, which you can do with the demo version. So download it, open it, and it will ask you to plug in your iPhone/iPad. do so. You will see various options. You want to go to Apps/Kindle/Library/eBooks, and you should see a list of the Kindle ebooks on your device. But you may not! It takes a bit for the stuff to sync. Spotify plays for 7 seconds and then stops mac. If you don't see anything in the Library, try shutting iExplorer off, disconnecting you phone/iPad and trying it again. I had to do that. (If at first you don't succeed. look at it this way. you failed!. NO! )
Now you should see a list of the eBooks and most will have a .azw, but some will be a folder. In my case, the culprit was the Japanese dictionary, and it's name was B005FNK002_EBOK.azw So if you see this, just to be sure, you should click on 'Quick-look' and then 'Open in Calibre'. if you don't have Calibre already, you should download the free Calibre program here It will probably show you that it is an English-Japanese dictionary. Then choose Actions/delete (I would save it first, if you have space, onto your computer).
TLDR: You can download the English-English dictionary and delete the default English-Japanese dictionary in the Kindle app and then it will use Eng-Eng by default.
