This was released today:
AC/DC Live At River Plate I love the band, but have not been impressed by any of their official DVD releases so far. My main gripe is that the camera shots are CONSTANTLY shifting around. It drives me CRAZY. Ever 1-2 seconds is a different shot. Has anyone watched this one? Is it any different in the way the shots are sequenced? Also, how's the quality in Blu-ray.. better than Donnington I hope?!
Setup: Epson 5040 UB, 110' SilverTicket AT screen, PS3 bluray, Yamaha RX-V673 AVR, Polk and Athena speakers, Batcave room.

Well, I am going to answer my own question, because I just went ahead and bought the Blu-Ray version today.. SPOILER ALERT: IT ROCKS!
OK, I've seen every single AC/DC video out there, including the main DVD releases NO BULL, LIVE AT DONNINGTON, etc.. Let me say this release does not disappoint, and it's the best one so far!!!! Camera shots can get a little hectic at times, but MUCH better than any other release I've seen. In several occasions the camera stays on a shot for 6-8 secs.. Now, there is extensive use of split screen throughout, and although different, it did not bother me too much. Worked well in many scenes actually. Sound: IT'S HUGE! I was surprised that no DTS or higher end audio formats where included.. just 5.1. But then.. WOW! Fantastic use of surround here! This is one of the best sounding bluray concerts I own. Sound comes loud and clear through all speakers, with clear 'imaging' of distinct instruments on each speaker. The distinct riffing and soloing coming from the Young brothers is tight and clear the way it should be. I loved it, really well done, the audio will NOT disappoint!!! Video: They said several HD cameras where used to shoot this concert. No doubt, it shows. Except for a few opening shots, and some of the aerial views, the image is very hi def, with great contrast/pop, and crisp. Donnington Blu Ray was a bit of a joke really.. This is the real deal here. I watched on a 110' screen, normally only the best quality shots show up well in this size, and this really did not disappoint. On a 60-70' TV it will only look better no doubt - superb! Lastly, THE CROWD. My God! The PURE RAW ENERGY coming from the crowd is like nothing I've ever seen. I was at this tour, and I felt more goosebumps from this crowd on video, than I did live at my venue! You just have to watch this, it's awesome for AC/DC fans and rock fans in general.

I did notice that on the options menu.. I tested it out, and my old receiver didn't seeme to 'interpret' the signal as a surround of any kind, and the overall audio quality did not seem to be an improvement over the already fantastic 5.1 DD.I'm going to research LPCM a little.. does the receiver need to support this format, or..? I have an older Pioneer VSX-D912 that I adore and refuse to upgrade LOL!

Now I really can't wait apparently Amazon only ships on the release date and they don't get it to the customer on the release date Should have mine in a few days, I hope..should have grabbed it for $1 less at BB on the release date.
I agree with you about most AC/DC concert videos, the video has generally been lacking, glad to hear this one won't disappoint. I'll be giving the DVD review, but with more videos like this(from what it sounds like) I should probably replace one of my DVD players with a BR..

LPCM is the uncompressed digital audio. DTS-MA is a lossless compression of the LPCM. When uncompressed in the audio processor it shouldn't be any different than the LPCM it was created from. LPCM has been around for quite some time. From Wiki (it must be true!): Linear pulse-code modulation (LPCM) is a method of encoding audio information digitally. The term also refers collectively to formats using this method of encoding. The term pulse-code modulation (PCM), though strictly more general, is often used to describe data encoded as LPCM. larry

I think it depends on the disc or their supply (or both). I've gotten pre-orders on release date from Amazon in the past. I'm a Prime member, don't know it that makes a difference. larry

Wow! Just Wow! The tour was great live, and the Blueray does it justice. The crowd is as much a part of the show as the band. The only negative comment I could make is that the bass sounds more anemic than the Stiff Upper Lip DVD, that one really shakes my theater. The bass on this one is good, but not as hard hitting as the older DVD.
Just a note that I found curious on the Stiff Upper Lip DVD, the DTS track did not have the great dynamic bass that the DD track did on the same disk. Has anyone else noticed this? It is the one disk that I need to switch to DD because my HTPC defaults to the DTS track when available on any DVD.

I watched some of the BD the other day. It rocks! I've never seen a crowd be so into the show. Sometimes it looked almost choreographed.

I'm still waiting for my Amazon DVD I only got the shipping conformation Friday and to think I ordered it 5/4/11! at least they dropped it to $9.99(I would guess a match to what BB had it for?). Next time I think I'll wait for it locally. Unfortunately I pre-ordered Let There Be Rock (supposed to be released June 7) so I'll see how that goes...

Well my DVD finally came today and all I can say is WOW! As mentioned the crowd is way into AC/DC and the crowd shots are great. Great 5.1 although it seemed the rears were a bit loud, I wish I could more easily tweak my AVR.
After watching this DVD a couple things came to mind. I should probably get a BR player and have purchased the BD. The DVD was quite good but I'm sure the crowd shots would have been even clearer on BR and while I'm at it a 46' screen just isn't big enough for something like this I'd think one of those 100+' models would do it more justice, then BR would be a must

Mine was shipped by Amazon($13.99 DVD) on Tuesday, but haven't got it yet. I'll post my impressions in the Concert dvd recommendations sticky thread when I get it. I haven't seen any reviews on AVS yet other than one very positive external link in the above thread.

Acdc Live At River Plate Let There Be Rock
Everything I've read indicates the sound is very 'MONO'. I can live with the poor video, but mon0-type audio would be a deal breaker for me.

Blu-Ray.com review gives the sound 4.5/5
'Thankfully things are much better on the audio side of things, which is probably the main calling card for fans, anyway. Aside from the original mix in Dolby Digital 2.0, this release sports an excellent lossless DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 mix which offers incredibly robust low end, bringing the propulsive riffs of AC/DC fully to life. There are some occasional mix issues in terms of Bon not being mixed loudly enough above the band, but those are no doubt endemic to the original mixdown. The surround repurposing is really good and allows the individual instruments to really shine, giving ample breathing space to all of them. The drums are crisp and solid and the Young boys sound fantastic. Fidelity is excellent, and though the band typically plays everything 'turned up to 11,' dynamic range is also quite supple.' http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/AC-DC-../20680/#Review

Didn't like the 5.1 on this one but the stereo track sounds just fine. But the band has seen better days, I think they are much better on the Stiff upper lip dvd.
Pretty good show in all with the amazing audience

Just got this at the Borders sale for a really great price. Started listening to it and it has me slightly confused. When I listen to the LCPM 2.0 and the LCPM 5.1 they almost sound the same. I was not hearing anything in my surrounds. Looking at the review from Blu-ray.com what exactly does the reviewer mean about the audio. Is the surround not constantly on and also the center as well it appears for the LCPM 5.1? Because when I turn on the DD 5.1 the entire system comes lively so the speakers are fine in that regards. So if someone could better explain the issue with this mix I would appreciate it, or does my receiver just not properly decode the LCPM? For reference I have a Denon 2112 and all Blu's I have listened to so far have been great. thx
